Glocal Gift
Glocal is the term we, at Trinity Life Church (TLC), use to include the ways that we influence our city and the world through our approach called The New Common. TLC’s DNA has always included engaging as a community with our city. The Glocal Gift is our fundraising campaign for all of our Glocal activities and we need your help to keep these thriving! Our activities include:
The New Common Space
The New Common is TLC’s approach to partnering with various organizations and individuals and The New Common space is specifically designed to do this for the common good of St. James Town (SJT). Our neighbourhood is one of the most densely populated and diverse populations of low-income families in North America. We run The New Common space to partner with individuals and organizations in SJT to benefit the community.
Some activities that we have hosted in The New Common space are:
– Mystery Mountain and other TLC engagement activities
– SJT Community Arts programs
– Community Climate Action Youth Initiative
– Illumine Media Project that develops films with SJT youth
– Temporary Food Bank to help those affected by the COVID-19 crisis
Holy Land Engagement
Similar to our engagement in SJT, TLC engages throughout the year in the West Bank with organizations to focus on capacity-building for the betterment of the local community. Part of this is taking domain engagers twice a year to the Holy Land to equip and empower those on the ground through our jobs, skills, and passions.
Some activities that have taken place are:
– Designing and implementing an entrepreneurial program alongside local business leaders
– Running workshops for local health and social service providers
– Working alongside NGOs to fulfill their mandates of poverty alleviation
– Working alongside a local university to help people thrive in an oppressed environment
– Empowering the Palestinian voice through creating an award-winning short film
r3 IN
TLC provides financial assistance to individuals and families who are experiencing financial or material needs due to prolonged illness, accident, or emergency. These funds are available through r3 Groups as they build relationships in their community.
r3 OUT
TLC empowers its r3 Groups to live on mission in their neighbourhoods by providing financial assistance. As kingdom disciples engage society, the church arises and rallies the neighbourhood through engaging families, businesses, organizations, and politicians.
Multifaith
Interfaith is fuelled by tolerance; multifaith is fuelled by love. Tolerating those of other faiths means keeping them at a distance, but loving those of other faiths means building genuine relationships. Our goal is not to convert, but to love. Therefore, instead of merely talking about our respective faiths and hiding what we believe under the table, we get to live out our faiths with one another as our beliefs are on the table. At TLC, we seek to do this with those of any faith, with a specific focus on the three Abrahamic faiths of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.
As you can see there’s a lot going on, so please join us in supporting the Glocal Gift! Would you consider praying for what the church is doing? And would you consider partnering with the church financially with a donation to the Glocal Gift?
Any amount will help support these activities! TLC appreciates all gifts it receives for the Glocal Gift. However, we cannot accept restricted gifts for programs or projects that are not already approved by TLC. If you desire to make a donation for one of the specific Glocal activities or projects, please know that when the need for such a program or project has been met, or cannot be completed for any reason as determined by TLC, the remaining restricted contributions will be used where needed most.
